The final leg in the Guyana Draughts Association competition was played off last
Sunday at the National Gymnasium. This time it was played on the International 100 square boards.
Ten (10) top players on this format of the game competed. The game was keenly contested since a purse sponsored by business man ”Pygon “of America Street was up for grabs. The purse was awarded to the first and second places only as was requested by the sponsor.
Steve Bacchus and Khemraj Pooranmall shared the purse. Both players ended on 15 points each. Mark Brathwaite was third with 13 points, while Jiaram and Ulric Brathwaite shared the 4th and 5th places since both players ended on 11 points each.
Tie breakers could not be played since the competition lasted late into the night and all the top players were mentally exhausted, in addition there were power outages.
