The Combined New Amsterdam/Canje Team was the first team to receive full sponsorship for the mega event, May Day Cup 2015. This fundraiser is organised by Friends of the PPP/C and is slated for Saturday
May 2, 2015 at the historic Albion Sports Complex. Proceeds from the event will go towards the Political Party for its 2015 elections campaign and beyond.
Anthony Ameerally of Memorex Enterprise of Strand New Amsterdam readily provided sponsorship for the team after being approached. The team will now be named Memorex NA/Canje and the sponsor is responsible for preparation of the team in the build up to the tournament, provide fifteen coloured uniforms and cover all refreshments and meals on the
day of the event.
Four exciting teams from the county of Berbice namely West Berbice, Memorex New Amsterdam/Canje, Lower Corentyne and Upper Corentyne/RHTY&SC will be competing for bragging rights.
The matches will be of 15 overs aside with two semi finals and a grand finale with the winner taking home a trophy and $100,000, the runner up $50,000 and the two losing semi finalist $25,000 each. The man of the match will also receive a trophy and $10,000 cash. The big game under floodlights will see arch rivals Berbice clashing with Demerara in a T20 game with the winner collecting a trophy and $200,000, man of the match a trophy and $20,000 and the loser
$100,000.
Several gate prizes for the fans will be up for grabs and games for the young and the old will be there. The other teams are expected to attract sponsorship too.
Shakti’s Strings along with Crown Vibes International will provide live entertainment after the feature clash. Tickets will be $1,000 all day with kids under 12 free.
At a simple ceremony held recently, Anthony Ameerally, Managing Director of Memorex Enterprise presented the sponsorship cheque to Adrian Anamayah in the presence of Roy Jaffarally and Vijai Ramdhan, other members of the organising committee. Ameerally said that he is pleased with the idea and even more pleased to be part of this historic event and will always continue to support the work of the PPP/C.
Anamayah thanked the sponsor for coming on board and called on other businesses and private individuals to support this mega event which is expected to be an annual affair.
