The Cricket Development Committee of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) in its continuing efforts to improve the skills of young cricketers has commenced a two-week Easter holiday Cricket Development Camp targeting 30 young players.
The camp which commenced on Tuesday last at the Area ‘H’ ground is being conducted by Coach Delbert Hicks, a former junior and senior Guyana player.
In a release, club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster said that in 2015 they are placing special emphasis on the development of their junior players from Under-13 to 19. This is being done even as the RHTY&SC maintains its status as one of Guyana’s leading cricket clubs.
Foster has expressed confidence that they would benefit from the exercise with emphasis being placed on getting them physically fit while improving their batting, bowling and fielding skills. The club’s Educational Committee would also be working with the players to improve their knowledge of the game and to get them to understand their duties as role models and sports ambassadors of the club.
Foster urged the young cricketers to develop a culture of discipline, hard work, dedication and respect for others if they wished to succeed in life. He cautioned them that RHTYSC would not tolerate indiscipline, lack of respect for Management or players who are not willing to develop themselves by listening to the advice of senior players.
Foster told the players that the likes of Assad Fudadin, Royston and Esuan Crandon, Shemaine Campbelle and Erva Giddings have all achieved success by dedicating themselves to the game.
Coach Delbert Hicks expressed confidence that the two-week camp would be a success and that each of the players would not only represent the club with distinction but would go on to play for Berbice, Guyana and the West Indies.
Hicks, who still plays first division cricket with the club’s Gizmos and Gadgets team stated that he is impressed with the attitude and commitment shown by the players so far.
