Police are questioning seven persons following the discovery of a M15 rifle along with thirty .223 rounds of ammunition on Wednesday night.
Five of the individuals, all male, were held by ranks of a mobile patrol unit while they
were travelling in a motor vehicle on Sussex Street around 22:40 hours.
A search of the vehicle unearthed the weapon with the ammunition.
Kaieteur News understands that the men had left a party where they had been imbibing, and their suspicious actions attracted the ranks’ attention.
One of the occupants of the car is said to be a fish exporter/gold miner.
There are reports that the two other persons in custody were detained, when they turned up to offer assistance to the five who were initially held.
