“Despite the hurdles 2014 has been a productive one for us”- Sanasie
By Sean Devers
Yesterday, on the Eve of Christmas, Secretary of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) and West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Director Anand Sanasie took time for his tireless and many times thankless job of running Guyana’s Cricket to wish cricket lovers and the entire Guyana a joyful Christmas season and a rewarding 2015 on behalf of GCB President Dru Bahadur, the Executive Committee and staff of the Guyana Cricket Board.
“Despite the tall hurdles, the year 2014 has been a productive one for the GCB. We had excellent participation in our local competitions and in the WICB regional tournaments, our under-15 and under-19 teams claimed the titles, our senior women finished second, and our senior men are comfortably ahead of their rivals after four rounds in the 4-Day Tournament. As such, 2015 promises to be bright. We are extremely optimistic for the remaining of the 4-Day Competition which resumes in February and we are also confident of excelling in the Super50 which gets underway in January 2015.” An upbeat Sanasie said.
“On the international stage, the GCB in 2014, continue to see the remarkable and vintage Shivnarine Chanderpaul dominate the test scene being joined by Assad Fudadin, Leon Johnson and Narsingh Deonarine for the West Indies senior team tour in South Africa. In 2014 we moved from having one player in the West Indies test squad to having four selected. We are proud of our players and continue to urge them to do better. It is our aim to produce more players at this level in 2015 for the England and Australia tours,” disclosed Sanasie. The cricket Administrator and Businessman, who in June of this year was called on to resign by General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), Clement Rohee following the decision of the WICB to relocate the test match between New Zealand and West Indies from Guyana to Barbados, said the GCB would like to thank all those who believe in the GCB and stuck with them through the year despite the many struggles. “I want to thank especially our sponsors, cricketers and Executive Bodies of various clubs, Associations and Counties across the country.
We must also thank cricket fans for continuing to follow and support our cricket, and we urge you to continue doing so in 2015 as cricket keeps heading in the right direction in Guyana. Make the most of the remaining days of 2014 and see you next year as we continue to aspire for betterment and success. Season Greetings.” Sanasie concluded.
