The Benschop Foundation has put up a $250,000 reward for information that would lead to the whereabouts of missing St. Stanislaus College teacher, Nyozi Goodman who disappeared from the National Sports Hall over two weeks ago.
The reward will be given to anyone with direct information that would lead to the discovery of the teacher who vanished on July 06, last. Persons with clues as to who might be responsible for her disappearance will also be eligible for the reward.
The identities of persons with “valuable” information will be withheld from the public.
Head of the Foundation, Mark Benschop, said that overseas donors decided to come forward and offer a reward to find the teacher because it is “crystal clear” that the police are not doing anything to find the teacher.
Benschop, a Social and Political Activist said that last Saturday he decided to gather some people and search the Botanical Gardens for possible clues on the missing teacher since he said that the police are sitting idle.
After searching for a while, the group found a brown handbag and a Digicel umbrella which are believed to have belonged to the missing 34-year-old.
“We started the search because we thought that the police would have picked up from where we left off but we were wrong. After finding the bag and the umbrella, the police did not do anything,” an upset Benschop said.
He explained that when the group discovered the items on Saturday, which were eventually identified by Goodman’s mother, Carol Greene and her colleague, Najuma Greenidge. The police were then called in.
“When the police arrived, I thought that they would have secured the area given the fact that the items found were identified but the police didn’t do anything like that. I even thought that they would have continued with the search today (yesterday) but that was not done too,” the activist said.
Goodman, of William Street, Kitty, was last seen with another teacher at the National Gymnasium, where she had taken a few of her students to participate in the Inter-Secondary Schools’ Basketball Championships.
There are reports that the teacher told her students that she would be staying behind as she expected someone to pick her up and take her home. There has not been any news of her since that night.
Kaieteur News understands that the police were questioning a male friend of the teacher who took her to the Sports Hall that morning. It is unclear whether the said individual picked her up later. Police sources confirmed that the same individual was questioned about the disappearance of Police Lance Corporal Patriena Nicholson, who has been missing since August 9, 2013.
The teacher’s mother in an interview with this publication yesterday expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Benschop and all those persons who have come forward to assist her family.
“I am very thankful for the help I am getting to find my daughter and I do appreciate it a lot,” the mother said.
Benschop is calling on persons with the vital information to call him on 644-2635.
