Kurt Clarke, the 34-year-old accused in the Baroombar murder case, was yesterday rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) after allegedly receiving a sound thrashing in the Camp Street Prisons.
According to reports, shortly after midday on Wednesday, Clarke was attacked by four other inmates from the Capital ‘C’ Division, where he was also housed.
He sustained lacerations to the head and about the body.
While the basis of the attack is still unknown, Kaieteur News was informed that Clarke was accused for “seeing and talking”.
The man is currently serving time for murdering Jamal ‘Gaga’ Fernandes on September 4, 2013 outside of the popular Brazilian strip club on North Road.
According to court documents, at about 03:20 hours that morning, the deceased, Fernandes, was standing outside the bar with two females, when the accused drove by with his car and called out “sexy” to one of the women.
This led to Fernandes becoming incensed and calling Clarke an “anti-man”.
Clarke then reportedly exited his vehicle and dealt the man five stabs to his chest.
The injured Fernandes was rushed to the hospital but succumbed on the way.
Clarke is committed to stand trial at the High Court on the next practicable sitting of the Demerara Assizes.
