“The past ten years would not have been the same without them …We just want to celebrate who they are and what they have done for us”.
One member of the Salvation Army noting the input of Captain Matignol Saint-Lot and his wife Mrs. Mireille Saint-Lot during their stint in Guyana, said that the couple has been Divisional Commanders of the Salvation Army in Guyana. They were assigned to this territory for the past ten years.
Mr. Saint-Lot said that his family has grown to love and regard Guyana as their second home. Saint Lot and his wife are Haitians.
“It was really exciting to be introduced to a country like Guyana with ethnic and cultural diversity. Over time, we have got to know the people and the people have grown to know us. We have worked with the drug rehabilitation programme for five years; we worked with people through the length and breadth of Guyana.”
The couple has three daughters, Matilda, Yolmeena and Melinda Saint- Lot. The latter child is Guyanese.
“Our children helped us to integrate because they are more Guyanese than we are. Guyana has been the place where the children grew up, therefore we could never forget our experience here. We learn from them. They know more about this country than our homeland.”
“Speaking about the rehabilitation programme, Mrs. Saint Lot said, “The experience was a great one where God has helped us to reshape the lives of many persons who thought that they were nothing living on the streets, abandoned by family to reform their lives and return to society.”
Her experience inspired her single titled, “Stop.”
“One of the things we are most happy about is the lives we’ve seen changed through the rehab programme. We are blessed to watch people who had given up on life get back on their feet and become contributors of society.”
The Captains have spearheaded various aspects of the Salvation Army, fulfilling their mission of tending to the spiritual and social needs of the Guyanese populace to teaching, training and counseling via social networks of the church.
Mr. Saint -Lot explained that their work is an answer to the call of ministry.
Having travelled and worked throughout the country, the family will be leaving these shores with a complete package of the Guyana experience.
The family will be heading to Jamaica for the next mission.
