Fitness enthusiast Eli Hazel has performed another awareness stunt; this time, he muzzled his mouth and walked from Vryheid Street to Philadelphia Street—the entire Main Street—of New Amsterdam on Sunday to raise awareness about domestic violence.
The point of it all was to show the public that arguments in the home which lead to violent attacks between partners, especially men towards women, can be avoided if either party “shuts up” during the argument and walks quietly away.
“I felt that I saved 1,000 lives, because you find in a family relation, you may have a problem with yourself and wife and instead of quarreling, you just walk away and that is the purpose that I am muzzling my mouth.”
He also distributed three hampers, through a donation to him from the Region 6 Administration and President of the St. Francis Community Developers, Mr. Alex Foster.
“It was not anything much but I want to compliment them and I took it to three homes. I saw what people are going through and what the people said to me—they all felt pleased”.
On Valentine’s Day this year, Hazel performed another stunt by dressing in red and white and walking with a blind person’s cane (shutting his eyes) through New Amsterdam demonstrating awareness about the non-availability of facilities for disabled persons in Berbice and Guyana as a whole.
