DEAR EDITOR,
Your readers are well aware that I’m no fan of Kaieteur News columnist, Frederick Kissoon. His daily vilification of the PPP/C Administration; his inability to acknowledge progress in Guyana; and his regular unfounded criticism of the land of my birth, has caused me to classify Kissoon as biased, irresponsible and reckless, corrupting the minds of his readers.
As an ardent reader of Kaieteur News, and a regular contributor to your letter pages, I am very familiar with Kissoon’s grammatical style of writing. In previous letters, I’ve written about his abuse and misuse of “big words” that seem to fill his inflated ego. But I was appalled at the disgusting postings made on the Facebook page of Kaieteur News Editor-in-Chief, Adam Harris, using the name of Frederick Kissoon. This is a despicable act of a coward hiding behind Freddie’s name to spew propaganda and blatant lies on prominent Guyanese, the likes of Glenn Lall and Christopher Ram.
Kissoon may be despicable, but he’s no coward. He proves this everyday by venting his feelings in Kaieteur News at the risk of being sued. Freddie Kissoon certainly did not write the filth posted on Adam Harris‘ Facebook page. I will also wager any amount that the Facebook page under the name of Frederick Kissoon (Freddie Kissoon) is not Freddie’s Facebook page at all. I could not find one that I could justifiably attribute to him. Therefore I must conclude that this account was deliberately setup to vilify Freddie Kissoon on Facebook.
As a political analyst, I am inclined to believe this is the work of a low-life, vicious operative that is sympathetic to the ruling Administration. And as a strong supporter of President Ramotar, I would also wager any amount that this is being done without his knowledge or approval. This I would hope, is the work of a sole individual who is mentally retarded, and who is too dumb to realize the potential harm he may be causing to the Ramotar Administration. It has been said time and time again that politics is a nasty game. But this kind of politics should be denounced by all political parties. Gutter politics has no place in a developing Guyana.
I therefore call upon the culprit who is using Frederick Kissoon’s name to slander and besmirch the characters of Glenn Lall, Christopher Ram and others to show some courage, if you have the cojones to do so. Use your own name and send those same articles to Kaieteur News for publication.
I can assure you that you will not be protected from slander in the print media the way you’re being protected now on the internet.
I further call upon the Government of Guyana to pursue laws that would give the Attorney General the powers to prevent, investigate, and prosecute computer crimes, including slander, by working with other government agencies, the private sector, academic institutions, and foreign counterparts to do so.
During the recent election campaign, Benschop Radio, an internet radio station operated by anti-PPP/C activist Mark Benschop, was notorious in propagating lies and slandering the characters of innocent people, myself included. Cyber-laws should be introduced to shut this station down if this trend continues. Having a licence to operate a radio station should not permit one to act irresponsibly.
Freddie Kissoon’s venomous attacks on the Administration will continue daily. But I hope he realizes that his daily rants may be creating monsters determined to get even with him. As the old people would say, “You can’t go to crab dance and don’t expect to get mud.”
In previous letters, I called upon Kissoon to be more responsible with his rhetoric. Perhaps it is time now for him to do so.
Harry Gill
