Dear Editor,
Vishnu Bisram’s reply to my concerns about the way the government is dealing with the Specialist Hospital to be built misses the central issue. The writer, Mr. Bisram, seems more intent with an effort to tarnish my character; his myopia reminds us of the position taken by Joseph Goebbels – who was Adolph Hitler’s Minister of Propaganda. It was, ‘if you repeat a falsehood often enough the people will come to accept it as the truth’.
First, the Chronicle headline “a Specialist Hospital is needed” is followed by Bisram’s statements clearly intended to suggest otherwise – I never questioned the need for a specialist hospital. For me that is not the issue -I questioned the way Government was dealing with it, its secrecy, spending millions in the development of the land – no statement about the fee structure. Will it earn foreign exchange or be a drain on our dollars?
Were the local hospitals and medical authorities consulted?
I stated, “First, I am a little disappointed that we’ve heard nothing which suggests that this venture was not discussed with the purported patriotic executive members of the Private Sector, or the administrators of the several local hospitals, Davis Memorial, Balwant Singh, St Joseph Mercy, Prasad, Woodlands, Medical Arts, etc, to ascertain whether this massive sum being provided by Government could not have been better utilized to upgrade any of these local medical institutions, to provide a similar service”.
For the first time we learnt from the pen of Bisram, that locals will be trained. Let us hear this from the Central Government agency involved, in other wards from the horses’ mouth.
Next, in attempting to assail my character again, he talks about my concerns and my reminder of the PPP attempt to bring in a large number of Indians from Kerala to Guyana. He is either dismally unaware all of the circumstances – let me help this gentleman. The 1960s saw the height of the stressful Cold War – Communism versus the values of the West.
Kerala was the predominantly communist state within India; their behaviour was a concern for the nonaligned Indian Government in New Delhi. These were the citizens Dr. Jagan and the PPP wished to deposit ‘en masse’ in Guyana.
The PPP and Dr. Jagan did not share Burnham’s attachment to non alignment and D’Aguiar’s affinity to the West; the PPP was unapologetically committed to Communism, the USSR and its satellite such as Kerala.
Recall a PPP Minister saying you can faster “stop tomorrow than communism” —fact not fiction.
Recall Dr. Jagan’s rocking chair meeting with President John F. Kennedy, this statement of mine was neither racist, nor anti Government of India as he would like young readers and those not aware of history to believe. I repeat, the Indian Government was not comfortable with the communist extremism extant in Kerala State.
This was the reason why myself and others objected to the move to bring these people to our country.
Bisram goes on to assail me by stating “his (H. Green) role in those activities, a role that is not only well documented, but that can be read about on documents released by the CIA and the British Intelligence, and available on the Internet.” What is he talking about?
I hereby challenge Mr. Bisram to produce these ‘documents’ and tell us where on the internet can be found any matter – which incriminates Hamilton Green (not what he and others have posted over the years – not speculations, nor lies, but facts). I note he did not mention documents from the KGB (the Soviet Intelligence Agency). One wonders why this slipup.
Finally every intelligent person must know this – for a people to take advantage of advancing technology, such as that of a specialist hospital; they need be prepared by a quality educational system to educate our youth.
Hamilton Green,J. P.,
Mayor
