GUYANA HINDU DHARMIC SABHA
Deepavali is of vedic origin. Maha Laxmi puja is performed. The Veda describes Laxmi as the source of fortune and abundance. This beautiful festival occurs in the dark half of the Hindu month of Kartik on Amawasya or new moon.
It is fascinating to witness families get together and, among other things make diyas. Of course, some use electricity while others confine their illumination to diyas. Fundamentally, Deepavali is Laxmi puja. Prayers are offered and puja is done for prosperity of the family. You will observe, therefore, that the festival brings people together in a profound spiritual atmosphere.
The first diya is lit on triodasi, the 13th day of the month exactly two days before Deepavali. This diya is kindled for longevity. On Chaturdasi, the 14th day, a small number of diyas are lit to celebrate Narkasur’s defeat by Lord Krishna.
Deepavali has earned national recognition and is celebrated by a wide cross section of the community. Guyana is visibly forging stronger religious unity and oneness. Deepavali, which has as one of its public events the motorcade, demonstrates the broad outlook of the multi-religious community.
At this time in our country’s history Deepavali will no doubt infuse our people with harmonious feeling and fraternity, which we must continue to foster for a happy and prosperous Guyana.
Deepavali Ka Shubh Kaamnayea

PEOPLE’S PROGRESSIVE PARTY
The People’s Progressive Party extends best wishes to all Guyanese and to the Hindu community in particular on the occasion of Diwali.
The wonderful festival of lights has come this year on the eve of our National and Regional elections. The message of Diwali has therefore taken on even greater meaning.
We recall the darkness which our country had to go through during the dark days of dictatorship. In that time the fundamental rights of our people were violated and that led to grave social and economic hardship.
The light broke through in 1992 when the PPP/C won the first free and fair elections in post independent Guyana.
The light has grown brighter since that day as the PPP was able to change the course of things and improve the quality of life in our country.
Today the struggle is to keep the lights shining and avoid going back in the wilderness.
Let us keep the light of Peace, Progress and Prosperity shining ever brighter in Guyana.
A Happy Diwali to all.

A PARTNERSHIP FOR NATIONAL UNITY
A Partnership for National Unity (A.P.N.U) joins the Hindu Community in Guyana and in the Diaspora in celebrating the very important ancient Hindu Festival of Lights, known as Deepavali or Diwali.
Deepavali symbolizes the triumph of good over evil. In the present circumstances of Guyana, where the evils of corruption, narco trafficking, people trafficking, violent criminality, domestic abuse, widespread and pervasive poverty, high levels of unemployment and destitution abound, it is important that the nation pays heed to the message and significance of Deepavali.
We are already observing the consequences of the nasty face of brutishness, bullyism, greed and arrogance, as the incumbent Party blatantly abuses and misuses the resources financed by the Guyanese taxpayers for unfair electioneering in the run-up to the 2011 General and Regional Elections.
A.P.N.U hopes that the message of hope and redemption associated with Deepavali will touch the hearts of the evil in our country to defeat those who continue to promote religious and racial disharmony for their own narrow selfish and unpatriotic ends.
We fervently hope, despite evident undesirable behaviour to the contrary, that good will triumph over evil for the benefit of all Guyanese.
A.P.N.U extends best wishes to the Hindu Community and all Guyanese for a happy, successful and fulfilling Deepavali 2011.

ALLIANCE FOR CHANGE
The Alliance For Change extends best wishes to all Guyanese, especially to our Hindu brothers and sisters on the festive occasion of Deepavali.
Deepavali or the festival of lights is essentially a celebration of the victory that is won when the dark forces of oppression and tyranny are overwhelmed and illuminated by the salutary efforts of transformation and change. Such transformation is considered by Hindus as the central feature of Bhagwan Ram’s work on earth.
In the Hindu systems of philosophy, the constant churning and flux towards a more ideal society is regarded as the natural course of societal evolution.
Contained in this process of transformation is the forceful confrontation of those who repress the masses by their excesses and corruption.
Shree Ram’s assembly of an armed force to oppose and depose the corrupt and repressive regime of Ravana has to be seen as symbolizing the concerted efforts that are required to depose tyranny and to establish a reign of goodness.
The important roles assigned by Valmiki and later Tulsidas to the characters of Seeta, Latchman and Hanuman in the epic work of the Ramayana, accentuates the characteristics of moral strength, resilience and courage to the struggle to establish goodness.
The AFC calls on all Guyanese to, while partaking in the usual activities associated with the celebration of Deepavali, remember the essential import of this festival.
The Guyanese society and polity is presently situated at a juncture where she craves a transformation and change which would see her being emancipated from a regime of excess and corruption.
A dark cloud of excess and corruption hovers over the Guyanese society aggrandizing a small cabal while the great mass of Guyanese are condemned to poverty and underdevelopment.
All Guyanese will have to become engaged in this movement to alter and uplift the current trajectory of our beloved land.
The Alliance For Change is dedicated to working in partnership with all who are committed to this struggle for a better Guyana.

INDIAN ARRIVAL COMMITTEE
Diwali, as we know, represents the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance. Diwali reassures us that our adversities and challenges can be overcome and that we can shine in our society, no matter how dark the night is, since Diwali is the darkest night of the year.
Diwali has great impact on the lives of Hindus. It has a universal message of hope. Hope for a brighter tomorrow; when we pray, we say Dhan Dayee Namastute – Oh Universal Mother, Bless us so that we can have a more prosperous future and rid ourselves of poverty (Poverty of thoughts, intellect, wisdom etc).
Maha Lakshmi which is revered at this time represents wealth, peace and prosperity, which all Guyanese share for this beautiful country. And more so, she represents motherhood and womanhood at large, that which the Hindus preserve and cherish. Diwali is indeed a national festival for us in Guyana and Guyanese of all walks of life will participate in activities involving Diwali.
May the divine light of Diwali shine within ourselves so that we can share more knowledge and show greater affection and compassion for each other as well as sharing that divine spark with our brothers and sisters. On this Diwali, let us continue to reach out to our brothers and sisters in our dear land and dedicate our efforts towards the progress, prosperity and peace of our nation.
The Indian Arrival Committee (IAC), takes this opportunity to extend Shubh Diwali to all Hindus and hopes that the blessings of Mother Lakshmi continue to illuminate their lives. Once again Shubh Diwali from the Indian Arrival Committee.
