An East Coast Demerara family is calling on the police to investigate the heinous manner in which a group of neighbours killed their family pet.
Shalini Singh and Pradeep Lall, of Lot 45 Dasrath Street Beterverwagting, ECD, have accused a neighbour of chopping their dog to death.
According to Shalini, she received a telephone call sometime on Friday from another neighbour informing them about what had happened.
The woman said she immediately called her husband who rushed to the family’s home. Singh said she also called the police informing them about what happened.
Upon arriving at the home, the woman said her husband found the dog lying in a pool of blood. A group of neighbours were also at the scene when the husband arrived.
The woman’s husband said that he picked up the dog and rushed it the vet’s office. “The dog was bleeding profusely…so I just picked it up and took it to the vet,” Lall told Kaieteur News.
He then went back to the home, only to find two ladies in his street brandishing cutlasses at him.
“I saw the two ladies (names given) waving the cutlasses at me,” Lall told this publication. According to the man, his yard was well secured and from what his neighbours told him, the perpetrators jumped over his fence and chopped his dog.
He further told Kaieteur News the police arrested five men but released them an hour after.
The husband explained to Kaieteur News that the perpetrators who are known to him would normally kill dogs in his community, but the police have never taken any action against them.
