Just when fishermen were beginning to feel safe working in the Atlantic Ocean, pirates returned with a vengeance on Sunday night, relieving two fishermen of their outboard engine and other valuables before leaving them to drift ashore.
Dilchand Dindyal, 40, of Lot 262 Chesney Front, Corentyne, and Dilchand Bisnauth 24, also of Chesney Front were relieved of their 40-horse power Yamaha outboard engine valued $800,000, two tanks of gasoline and a cellular phone by three masked men just about two miles off the Adventure, Corentyne foreshore.
The incident occurred just a few days after notorious pirate, Kevin Narine, called ‘Long Hair’ was jailed for acts of piracy.
According to reports reaching Kaieteur News the two men had anchored their wooden boat around 19:15 hours on Sunday, waiting to cast their seine, when the three men in a small boat pulled up alongside their boat.
The men, one of whom was carrying a handgun, ordered them to hand over their Cellular phone after which they dealt them several lashes to their heads and backs and ordered them to lie face down.
The two men along with the boat owner subsequently went to the Whim Police Station where a report was made.
Dindyal and Bisnauth were both taken to Port Mourant Hospital where they were treated for injuries sustained during the attack and later sent away.
