Three armed bandits last evening brazenly invaded the Triune Mystical House of Bethel during a service and shot one worshipper after robbing him.
The men apparently had singled out worshipper Gregory Clarke, who was wearing several pieces of jewellery.
This newspaper was told that the three men entered the compound checked to see if there was anyone in the changing area at the rear of the church before making their way in and holding Clarke at gunpoint.
One member of the church said that the man told Clarke to, “pass every (expletive) thing or I will kill you.”
Clarke did not give up without a fight even after the man had finished relieving him of his jewellery.
Eyewitnesses said that the victim picked up a chair and managed to deal the robber two blows across the back, causing the bandit to drop his gun and run.
But one of other robbers fired a single shot, hitting Brian Cummings in his leg. He was rushed to the hospital after the ordeal had subsided.
The gun with twelve matching rounds, was later recovered by the police who were called on the scene.
One member of the church told this newspaper that the minute she notice the men she immediately recognised them to be gunmen.
“When I saw them first the brethren in the church did not know what was going on.”
She said that she immediately informed a colleague next to her but by the time she could secure her granddaughter, the men were already in the church attacking Clarke.
“Is when the man turn he (Clarke) pick up a chair and ‘whacks’ he (the bandit) two times and the gun fall and the one outside shoot.”
Another senior elder in the church said, “well let me tell you it happen so fast by the time I catch myself the guy that get robbed was lashing the bandit with the chair.”
