A mid-morning explosion at the busy Stabroek Market area has left one man dead and several persons injured, creating panic in the country as news spread.
Fire officials who were on the scene said someone hurled a fragmentation device at a shop, not too far from Parliament Buildings.
The man who was killed is said to a deportee who did menial jobs at the behest of stallholders around the area.
The incident occurred at around 10:30 hrs.
