The late Winston Shripal Murray will today be buried on the island Leguan, the place of his birth.
Murray’s body will lie in state at the Parliament Building before the funeral service, which is slated to be held at the St Georges Cathedral.
The family of the late Shadow Finance Minister had mandated a Committee to oversee the preparations for the funeral.
Russel Lancaster heads the Committee, named the Protocol Committee.
The other committee members include Dr. Richard Van West Charles, Kads Khan, Malcolm Parris, Ronald Austin, Aubrey Norton, Priest Mwanza, Gillian Burton and Eugene Gilbert.
The Committee has been meeting continuously for the past 48 hours and has been finalising the details of the funeral programme.
This newspaper understands that the family was awaiting the arrival of relatives from overseas.
Murray collapsed nearly three weeks ago and suffered brain hemorrhage and subsequently succumbed after being on life support in the Intensive Care Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Since he was declared “brain dead” by Jamaica-based neurosurgeon Dr. Ivor Crandon, there were questions about the removal of the life support system to which he was attached, but that became unnecessary when Murray stopped breathing on his own.
Since his death there have been a plethora of tributes being showered on Murray who was one of the more respected Parliamentarians/Politicians in Guyana.
