A private initiative that started out as an adventure for youths who are not afraid to take on some of Guyana’s jungles and forested areas last year has become an experience for at least 80 persons to have this Easter en route to the Rupununi Rodeo.
The Foo brothers comprising Fabian, Orson and Aaron called ‘the Young Troop Entrepreneurs’ as well as their parents have planned an exciting six days and five nights for their family and friends and members of the public who long for the thrills and the natural unpredictable experiences of taking on the trail to get to the Rupununi Rodeo.
On Tuesday morning, about 5:00hrs the first Rupununi Excursion; a private initiative, will take off from outside the Parliament buildings with about 80 people seeking to enjoy the sights and sounds and experience what the Foo brothers had last year.
“Last year it was mostly our friends and family out to enjoy a different side of Guyana and it was refreshing and adventure filled so after that we spent months planning to ensure that others get the experience of Guyana naturally too,” Fabian said.
The result is the excursion, and for good measure they’ve thrown in a shopping experience in Boa Vista Brazil as part of the official launch of this excursion that invites adventure seekers who dare to get close to nature and want to experience nature in parts of Guyana’s Wild,” the 25-year-old said.
Their desire for adventure began with their boyhood days of visiting their grandmother in Yupukari, Region Nine, North Rupununi Savannah.
“It’s normal for us to go to that area on holidays and enjoy nature, ride horses and go fishing,” the young man said but because of the El Nino weather most of the ponds are dried up hence the Caimans and other predators are competing for the water that is available and the fishes too.”
As such, the first trip will not include fishing but that has not been ruled out of next year’s experience.
Already 50 persons are on board. The cost is between $US$250 and US$300.
The excursion leaves Georgetown on Tuesday April 1 from outside Parliament Buildings in chartered buses for destination Rupununi in five days.
“People will experience a walk across the Iwokrama Canopy walkway, and then they will stop at the Oasis Snackette at Annai. Along the Iwokrama road persons may see some of Guyana’s Wild life such as Pouis, agoutis and several feline creatures including the Jaguar.
They then will travel to Lethem about17:00hrs to rest and enjoy the night life.
The following day will be an all out picnic experience at the foot of the Kanuku Mountains and persons can take dip in the fresh waters of the Kumu Water falls, in Region Nine.
On day three, Easter Saturday, the next stop is the Rupununi Rodeo where much entertainment will be on the offer as Guyanese and Brazilians take on each other in various rodeo activities such as horses and bulls riding etc.
Day four, the rodeo experiences will continue and then on Monday, day five, the entourage will head to Boa Vista, Brazil via the Takutu Bridge where they can do sightseeing and enjoy Brazilian cuisines. Then later in the afternoon they return to Rupununi for some more late night Easter night entertainment. Then the trip back to Georgetown begins.
Reflecting on when it was only a family and friends excursion. “The trip was fun because we saw so much and most of the people enjoyed themselves,” Ann Foo the co-ordinators’ mother said.
Along the way she said one might be lucky to see a jaguar or two on the trail and some of the monkeys roaming freely; and snakes too. The trip will also include Campfires and story telling.
There is however one criterion: Persons desirous of going on the trip beyond Guyana to Brazil must have a valid passport and proof of being vaccinated for yellow fever. The boys assure that in case of any health eventualities two doctors will be on the trip and persons need not be worried about security as security will be amongst the team.
