Very few companies and organizations can boast of long fruitful relations resulting in the positive shaping of lives, especially the youth in a world and country that is forever changing. But one company that can themselves boast in so doing is Farfan and Mendes Ltd.
This entity has over the past 14 years been a solid pillar in the development and progress of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) Under-15 cricket team. Monday at their Urquhart Street Head Office, Managing Director Andrew Mendes in brief remarks said his company sees their contribution as a means of giving back to the community and for young people to benefit from gainful team sports.
What the two entities hold in common according to Mendes is that they have an enabling and facilitating environment in which young people can operate and produce positive results today as in any other generation. He also highlighted the fact that the staff at Farfan and Mendes is also young but they produce.
“It’s what we do for them that are important; it’s not what they are supposed to do for us. We are a successful company but it’s all to do with the staff. We are happy to support the RHTY&SC in this area also for the development of our youth and the future success of the club. We have been happy over the years to sponsor the team and well will continue in the future.”
The company presented some gifts to the team for winning the Berbice Under-15 competition which Mendes said was an incentive to continue aiming for excellence.
The partnership would see Farfan and Mendes taking care of the purchasing of balls, transportation and snacks for the Farfan and Mendes/RHT Under-15 team for 2010.
The company will also co-sponsor other activities organised by the club during the year including their 20th Anniversary Magazine.
Foster thanked the company for their continued commitment and dedication to the club and heaped special praise on Mrs. June Mendes, Management and Staff for standing by the side of the club as well as sharing in their successes and failures. The club’s recent triumph of winning the Berbice Under-15 Championship was dedicated to the Management and Staff Farfan & Mendes and Foster relayed to Andrew Mendes that the players have said the best is yet to come.
During the years of commitment, Farfan and Mendes have invested over 2 million dollars and this has been described by Foster as one of the main reasons for the success of the club. They have also co-sponsored a number the club’s other programmes and activities consistently over the years.
Four national cricketers have emerged during Farfan and Mendes’ commitment; the Crandon brothers, Assad Fudadin and Delbert Hicks; fifteen (15) national junior cricketers and a total of 36 for Berbice.
