Following an important meeting held last week at the Olympic House, High Street, Georgetown, the executives of the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) have dispatched a correspondence to the former President of GABA, Affeeze Khan, seeking his cooperation in regularizing the affairs of the Association.
Secretary of GABA, Sean Richmond related that despite their most ardent attempts, Mr. Khan has so far refused to respond to their requests. The executives are currently contemplating seeking the intervention of the President of the GOA K A Juman Yassin. The full text of the letter sent December 15 reads:
Dear Mr. Khan,
Re: Request for Report on the Financial & Other Resource Status of the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association
Following your resignation as the previously elected President of the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association, as well as the resignation of several other elected executives who functioned during your tenure, I wish to advise that the elections of new Office Bearers were held on Friday, December 11, 2009 in keeping with the Statutes and Constitution of the Association.
The elections were presided over by the current President of the Guyana Olympic Association Mr. K. Juman Yassin who in keeping with his role, returned a new Executive Committee which is comprised of the following persons:
Mr. Steve Ninvalle – President
Mr. Maurice Rajkumar – Vice President
Mr. Eustace Cuffy – Vice President
Mr. Jeff Roberts – Vice President
Mr. Sean Richmond – Secretary
Mr. Dexter Patterson – Treasurer
Mr. Keith Campbell – Assistant Secretary/Treasurer
The Executive Committee has since met towards chartering a way forward. In keeping with our discussions, it was noted that there was no official handover of the financial and other resource status of the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association at the time of your resignation.
As you would appreciate, it is critical that this position is established in view of the necessity for full accountability and transparency while we take steps to ensure that the boxers and the entire boxing fraternity in Guyana are the true beneficiaries of entrusted resources and funds. Additionally, it is important that we are made aware of the status of all activities which were scheduled based on your team’s coordination with stakeholders both national and internationally.
In this regard, we would appreciate if you will respond to us on these issues as soon as possible, but no later than December 30, 2009 since our strategic planning for 2010 will be strongly influenced by this position. We wish to recognize your efforts while you functioned as the President of GABA and to thank you in advance for an early response.
With warmest season’s greetings and kindest regards,
Yours truly,
Sean Richmond – Secretary
CC: Mr. K. Juman Yassin, President – Guyana Olympic Associations
