Not surprised they excelled
Former Guyana and USA Powerlifting Champion and Guyana’s first Professional Bodybuilder Hugh Ross has congratulated Powerlifters Randolph Morgan, Mervin ‘Spongy’ Moses and ‘Big’ John Edwards on their recent achievement at the 7th NAPF and 12th FESUPO Pan American Powerlifting Championship held in Miami Florida.
Following is the full text of Ross’ congratulatory message:
“It is with pride and joy that I send my personal congratulations, as well as on behalf of the Hugh Ross Classis Committee, to each member of our Powerlifting team and also to the President and members of the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation on their recent overwhelming success at the Pan American & North American Powerlifting Championships in Miami.
This is a follow up since I was able to convey congratulations to the entire team individually via telephone while they were in Miami.
I am not the least bit surprised since I had always openly predicted that our Powerlifters would be very dominant at the International level once given the exposure.
As an Former Powerlifting champion, having won the NY, NJ, CT and the Overall US National Masters Championships, I have continued to keep abreast with the winning totals that are registered at major international competitions and have always realized that the totals that are registered by our lifters at competitions in Guyana have been constantly superseding the international totals for quite some time now.”
“Hats off to Peter Green, President of the GAPF for his herculean efforts in taking the Powerlifting Federation this far in such a short period.”
Ross said he is currently preparing for September 13, which is the date for the United States team selections which will see the successful Bodybuilders making the US team to compete at the Mr. Universe championships in October.
Ross, who has recently recovered from injuries to his back and left knee, is back to full training which is done six days weekly with double sessions on days when he is off from work. Only four athletes will be chosen from in excess of 300 on September 13.
