Guyana’s recently training International Basketball Federation (FIBA) basketball referees Aubrey Younge and Lugard Mohan have not received their results from the practical part of the programme that was done in the United States.
The officials had passed the theory and fitness tests of the three-part examination and was required to referee a quarter in a game as part of their practical test.
The results from that aspect would confirm them as FIBA referees.
The result will be sent directly to the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) but up to press time yesterday, Younge told Kaieteur Sport that the federation had not gotten a word from FIBA as it relates the practical results.
“(Ian) Andrews (GABF Executive) checked the mailbox on Tuesday and he did not see anything pertaining to that,” Younge said, adding that he does not envision a problem with them getting the accreditation.
The former basketball player, who returned to Guyana from the course about two weeks ago, informed that the practical was basically the ‘three-man refereeing’ techniques and they were among the best exponents of the exercise.
“I did not see anyone that was better than us. I would like to think that both of us passed,” Younge indicated. The duo were informed in the United States that they were successful in the two preceding test of the programme.
Mohan returned to Guyana yesterday morning. The duo had taken up the training chance after two places were made available to the GABF. Their confirmation will give Guyana two more internationally accredited referees.
Currently, Sherwin Henry is Guyana’s only FIBA accredited referee after Howard Peters failed his recertification programme in Canada earlier this year.
