It’s been over four weeks since the last tournament so scrabble players have had enough time to practice the old words and learn new ones in time for this morning Open Championships at the Malteenoes Sports Club Thomas lands, under the auspices of the Guyana Association of Scrabble Players (GASP).
In the past, choosing a winner presented no difficulty since national champion Fred Collins and top contenders like Abigail McDonald, Moen Gafoor and Colin Chichester always managed to walk away with the lion’s share of the prizes. However, recently Leon Belony, Devon Dublin, Paul Adams and Grace Hercules among others have been presenting themselves as formidable contenders.
Added to that, one must also be wary of Ulric Harris, James Krakowsky, Ruby Collins and the boys from the East Coast, Curtis Liverpool and Winslow Jacobs, who are all formidable challengers.
The tournament is being sponsored by past President of GASP, Colin Chichester and the first three finishers will receive lucrative prizes. Word formation time is 10:00hrs.
